Purdy's first book, self-published in Vancouver in an edition of 500 copies. In 1944 I paid $200 to publishers Clarke & Stuart on Seymour Street to print a 500-copy edition of my own poems, called the Enchanted Echo. It was 64 pages, soft-covered, and perhaps seventy-five to a hundred copies were sold or given away - from Reaching for the Beaufort Sea, Purdy's autobiography published by Harbour in 1993. The extremely rare first book by one of Canada's most distinguished poets. Most of these works were originally published in the poetry page of the Vancouver Sun. Bound in gray textured card with yapped edges with a pen and ink drawing of Purdy by Gordon Thorne. In overall very nice condition with some light dampstaining along the top edge, small faint ink stain on rear cover, some wear to the edges. A nice copy of a rare, fragile and important book.
