Originally published in 1900 by Fremantle with colour frontis and black and white illustrations. For this edition, which has 40 mounted colour plates, Rackham coloured and modified many of the earlier drawings as well as adding eight brand new illustrations. This has led to a striking variety of plates in size as well as style. It also still includes 55 black and white illustrations, many full page, as well as numerous untitled vignettes. Captioned tissue guards present for all 40 plates. Bound in gilt decorated red cloth, with a red top edge. Sympathetically and handsomely rebacked with the original spine laid on. Seven of the plates have some creasing to the lower left corner, a number of the tissue guards are creased as well. Finger smudges on a number of pages. Some spotting to the covers. Overall a solid and handsome copy of an uncommon Rackham work. A heavy book, special shipping considerations may apply.
