A superior copy of Twain’s masterpiece in an early mixed issue state. The main points for determination are as follows: “Him and Another Man” on p.13 listed at p.88 later changed to p.87. P. 57 has “with the was” on 11th line from bottom. Decided later changed to Decides on p.9. The other secondary points are: The final 5 on p155 is slightly lower than the other numbers. The signature mark is not present on p161. The portait frontis has the Helioprint imprint and the scarf is not visible. The l is missing from Col in the illustration on p.143. The b in body on line 7 of p 143 is broken. The date on the title page is 1885 and on the copyright page 1884. The book is in lovely condition with some wear to the spine extremities and almost none elsewhere. The gilt remains bright on both the front board and the spine. The rear free endpaper has a tape-repair, otherwise the book is unrestored and in near fine condition. Bal 3415, McBride p. 93, Johnson p. 111.
