Illustrated with altogether wonderful and exceedingly dramatic chromolithographs (from watercolours by J B Zwecker, Harrison Weir and Harden Melville, engraved and printed by W Dickes) of fiercesome wild animals involved in inflicting dreadful injuries on intrepid Englishmen (9 of 10 called for present – missing The Lion). Dozens of woodcuts in the text (from designs by Harden Melville and William Harvey, engraved by H Newsom Woods) together with folding maps of the continents (5 of 6 present –missing Asia). All in all a prize to bring joy to any red-blooded Victorian Grammar School boy. General wear to covers, especially edges and corners. Upper spine joints split and repaired causing some damage to spine head. Lower front joint starting. Foxing, especially near beginning and end of book.
