Newcombe (1851-1924), physician, natural historian and artifact collector was an important figure in the rush to collect Northwest Coast art and objects, most of which were collected for foreign institutions although he collected for the Provincial Museum later in in his career and ulitmately his enormous personal collection was sold to the British Columbia Government and is now housed in the RBCM and the Provincial Archives.
